The Qin Dynasty (221BC-206BC)

The Great Wall of China that we know today was begun during the Qin Dynasty in 221B.C. The Wall borders the Northern edge of Qin's Empire. Emperor China built the wall to protect the Empire from the invading Nomads. The Nomads who invaded were from the north such as the Xiongnu. Many people believe that Emperor Qin was the first one to ever build a wall for protection against the Nomads, this is false. A few empires before Qin's built walls to protect themselves. These walls did not suffice so emperor Qin reconstructed them and added miles onto the wall. Emperor Qin used rubble from previous walls and added material as well. Building Qin's portion of The Great Wall took 9 years, using a great surplus of materials and took many lives.
